08-24-2010 Meeting Minutes for Northern Wisconsin NORML
8-24-2010 Northern WI NORML Meeting Minutes
Waushara Argus will not accept letters from Jay or anyone connected with the campaign – you must be a resident of Waushara County and you must be a private citizen, not a candidate – they want Jay (and all other politicians) to buy an ad – so if anyone wants to write a pro-pot or pro-jay letter to the Waushara Argus, this would be the time. Jay had been writing to them about Marijuana related issues but will no longer do so now that he is a candidate.
Cannabis Agenda – interviewed Jay twice and they are still keeping it on their home page, and have been promoting our links and information.
Redgranite Labor Day Festival – chicken roast – Friends of Jay will be in the parade but they were not enthusiastic about a NORML entry. Danielle says she would march as NORML.
NORML Conference in Oregon will be the same time as the Fighting Bob fest – NORML has a booth for Fighting Bob Fest (which is labelled as the most liberal / progressive political festival in the country). (fightingbobfest.com) – we should try to make it there as a group.
Friends of Jay concert September 18th.
Harvest Fest – Green Lake – the person who suggested the float never came back but anyone who wants to could make one if they so wish. We just don’t have the time / money / resources to follow through with that idea and the person who suggested it has not been back since.
Harvest Fest update – Willie’s people know that we want him at Harvest Fest so there is a good chance that he may show up at some point to the festival. Willie is on the celebrity board of directors for NORML so we shall see… Saturday would be the most likely day for Willie to play if he does show up. Potential NORML field trip.
Jay had a “Friends of Jay Selthofner” booth at the Waushara County Fair this past weekend and spent some time talking with Sherriff candidate Monacelli who was open minded and discussed the topic respectfully and intelligently. Peterson, also running for Sherriff, did not speak with Jay at all.
Found some local supporters at the fair also.
Closed out the meeting with a brief discussion of the numbers of the “True Cost”… Jay contacted a sociologist who said that the true cost is impossible to calculate with all of the factors.
Johnny Potseed – new Examiner out of Green Bay. Dave Hadden. He has contacted all of the political candidates to see how they feel about pot – we should check to see who responded and contact the friendlies.
Jim Langer – after Jay’s article about Langer which was published in Berlin, WI, Langer was contacted by several other reporters – hopefully he will speak about Marijuana and educate others the way that Jay tried to educate him. Time will tell.
Jessie suggested trying to get politicians to come and discuss the topic with us. We considered Appleton Public Library – invite all politicians in the state. We may not have the time and resources to pull it off by the election but maybe we would… we decided in the end to invite them to the first morning meeting in October after harvest fest. We will need to make a questionaire for politicians about the topic, promise to keep the actual answers private so they will feel comfortable answering honestly. If they don’t answer, that speaks volumes also. We discussed this idea and will follow up on it.
Jessie will make a page on the Northern WI NORML site where we can put our survey online
