About Jessica Struzik
Hello, World!
I am a nerdy book worm, linguaphile, programmer, website developer, activist, gardener, nature photographer, raver, flow artist, and ordained minister, among other things.
I began using computers in 1983-1984. My school had a computer lab and gifted program where we were given access to computers often. I used Apple IIE’s at school as well as IBM computers. I began programming in LOGO at this time. I soon also began programming in Commodore BASIC in 1985 when my parents got me my very own first computer, a Commodore 64, at the age of 8 years old.
The Internet as we know it became available to the public in 1993, and I was instantly obsessed. My friends and I already spent all of our free time dialing into local BBS’s with our 2400 baud modems and our 286×6 IBM PC’s. 80MB Western Digital HD, 4MB RAM, lol. We were always taking our old computers apart and using them to try to expand our memory and other hardware. We were just really, really nerdy.
I began to learn about Website Design at Milwaukee Area Technical College in 1995. They taught us WYSIWYG editors, like Microsoft Frontpage (1995) and Netscape Composer (1997). but for many years, I mostly used Notepad to write HTML. Later, I bought a student copy of Macromedia Dreamweaver 3, which became my favorite software for many years. I taught myself HTML, CGI, Perl, XML, DHTML, CSS, and other markup languages using the Internet.
In 2000, I chose my current business name, Green Web Design, while I was still going to community college and taking classes towards an Associates in Science. I was thinking of websites as an environmentally friendly alternative to costly and wasteful telephone books, newspapers, and other forms of paper advertising. I registered GreenWebDesign.com, and made my brand name official. In 2005, I left my tech support job at a major Insurance-to-Value software company. I have been a self employed website developer since then.
I never did finish my associates in Science. I got something like 30 credits, and then my beloved grandma Louise was diagnosed with cancer, and I took some time off from classes to stay home and help my family give her hospice care at home with my parents, sister, and grandpa. The 5 of us took care of her together around the clock for a year before she passed away, and I just never went back to school again.
Instead, I have spent thousands of hours learning, programming, developing, and supporting small business websites in the United States. This includes learning and using related skills such as SEO and digital marketing. I am an expert in my field several times over.
Green Web Design is not merely my career. It is my personality. It’s who I am way deep down inside. I love computers, data, coding, the Internet, learning languages, and just everything about my chosen path. I love making complicated spreadsheets and databases to neatly organize data. I love making pretty logos and branding. I love inventing new mini businesses for myself. I love my clients and their businesses as much as I love my own businesses. I also love marketing my creations.
It doesn’t matter what the job is, I can get it done! From registering a domain name and web hosting; to expertly building a robust, compliant, dynamic, fast loading website which provides a positive end user experience for your clients; to branding and logos; to managing social media profiles and campaigns; to providing effective digital advertising solutions; I can assist you every step of the way.
I have also been a raver since 1991. One of my proudest vintage rave moments was when I saw Daft Punk at Even Further in 1996. I have been juggling with Devil Sticks since I picked them up that weekend in 1996. It is my favorite outdoor hobby and biggest stress relief.
I have been an ordained minister of the Universal Life Church since September 10, 1999. I received my Doctor of Divinity from ULC in 2003. I am available to officiate at weddings in Michigan and Wisconsin.
I also fancy myself a bit of an avid Nature Photographer. If you would like to order a wall print of any of my nature photos, or if you would like to license a higher resolution copy of one of my photographs for use on your website or other publication, check my shop or just contact me!
