Piers Gorge in Norway Township, Michigan Summer 2018
My roommate wanted to buy a guitar in Iron Mountain, so we took a family road trip with his girlfriend and the kids. They had never been to Piers Gorge before, so of course we had to stop and check it out. I’ve been here several times since I moved in 2014, and it’s one of my favorite spots to hike.
Piers Gorge is a massive gorge that has been formed by the Menominee River. It gets its name from the drops that look like “piers” as they fall over rock ledges. These create four sets of rapids. The biggest of the drops is about 8′ high and is named Mishicot Falls. Piers Gorge is the deepest whitewater gorge in the Midwest
Piers Gorge Road is located in Norway Township, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula.
